Emotional abuse can completely destroy your self-esteem, self-worth and self-respect. This is done over time, chipping away at you, more often than not, it will go unnoticed by others including yourself until you end up mentally ill. It is a dripping tap throughout the relationship of doubt about how you see yourself. It makes you feel unlovable, unworthy, destroying your self-esteem. It can include blaming you for all of the problems, belittling, name calling, constant criticising, accusations, insulting and mocking you, jokes at your expense, making you feel guilt for things that aren’t your fault.
